First a House, Then a Car, Then a Weber

Before we can start discussing any food-related items, an important priority has to be dealt with. The fact is that you just can’t start a blog about food without paying your respect to the Godfather of barbequing: George A. Stephen, Sr. – Creator of the Weber Barbeque. Every man should know the story behind his favorite, most important (and often only) kitchen appliance in the world. Therefore we give you a short summary of the story behind the Weber barbeque.

We call this chapter Genesis.

It all started 60 years ago, back in 1952 in Mount Prospect, Illinois, where young George grew tired of the uncontrollable flame on his barbeque. Therefore he set himself a goal; create a barbeque that can be used in all types of weather. This meant fabricating a barbeque with a lid on it. Fortunately for him, he worked at Weber Brothers Metal Works in Chicago where he made metal harbor buoys for use in Lake Michigan. One morning, he decided to cut one the buoys in half, weld three legs under it and shape the top of the buoy as a lid. He tested it and after a few prototypes, he saw that it was good.
Because he didn’t have the funds to launch his invention, the Weber firm offered a helping hand and as a thank-you, the barbeque was named the Weber. This was the start of the Weber Empire and barbequing would never be the same. Today, 60 years after George Stephen first gave birth to it, the Weber barbeque has become an icon in every real man’s backyard. It has changed the way we prepare meals outdoors and it is a must-have piece of furniture for everyone who likes that smoky flavor on their steak. Let us never forget George A. Stephen, Sr.
Amen.
As we all know, a house just isn´t complete without Weber barbeque. And by a Weber barbeque, I mean a charcoal barbeque. Don´t even think about buying a gas barbeque or even worse, an electric one – this is called 'swearing in the barbeque church'. Charcoal is the only way to go and any backyard hero knows it.

Now that you all know the history behind our favorite kitchen appliance, it’s time to start with our blog. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of barbeque-related items posted over next few weeks. Enjoy the blog!
